Welcome to Train a Child Ideas, where we believe in the power of emotional wellness for both children and parents. Our goal is to empower children with evidence-based tools and strategies to manage emotionally challenging situations and cultivate self-care as a life skill. We also strive to support parents in their efforts to raise happy, healthy, and resilient children.
Train A Child Ideas was born out of a desire to advocate for the welfare of children. We do this through the creation of age-appropriate books, workshops and community programs for children, parents and educators.
Train A Child Ideas was founded by Dr. Mya Okeowo, a child development professional and advocate. As a child, Mya struggled with anxiety that manifested in physical ailments. Sadly, her condition went undiagnosed. Determined to educate and empower children, parents and educators, Mya begun Train A Child Ideas.
Books etc. to help children develop skills and multiple effective intervention strategies that build essential life-long habits such as emotional intelligence, resilience, adaptability and self-awareness.

Hello! I am thrilled that you have decided to begin your journey into mental wellness for you and your child. It has taken me decades, a cardiac arrest, and going on life support to realise that the feelings I had felt in my body since I was a child were the constant warning signals my brain was sending me – to pay attention to my numerous unprocessed emotions.
As a child, I struggled with anxiety that showed up in stomach ulcers and eating disorder. Unfortunately, my condition went undiagnosed until I almost died. Which is why when I began my own journey into motherhood, I was determined to parent differently from the culture of my upbringing. Instead of viewing emotions as a weakness or flaw, I would be INTENTIONAL in empowering my children to be present in their own emotions – to feel their feelings and process them properly.
Train A Child Ideas was founded as a way to provide children with evidence based practical tools and real-life strategies to manage emotionally challenging situations. To introduce them to self-care as an essential life skill, To offer parents a different way to raise children – a way that puts children’s welfare at the forefront.
At Train A Child Ideas, we attempt to do just that through our books, programs and community initiatives. Our Resource and Training Centre offers valuable parenting and teaching guides that foster connection, enhance learning and support children who may be facing mental health, behavioural, or learning challenges – the sorts of information I wish I and my parents had when I was growing up. What’s more, our goal is to put these essential resources directly into the hands of as many children as we can; to allow them take ownership of their mental health. This way, we can break negative parenting cycles one step at a time, and leave a worthy legacy for all children.
